Stephen Curry revealed in an interview that during the peak of the Golden State Warriors' dominance, he frequently used social media at halftime, even when the team was losing significantly. He described being active on platforms like Twitter (now X) and Vine, sending snapshots and conducting his own "in-game interviews" with friends. Curry specifically mentioned taking selfies when down by 16 points and captioning them playfully, like "What we about to do?"
He attributed this behavior partly to the team's "irrational confidence," believing they could overcome any deficit quickly. This mindset was so strong that being down 16 points felt like nothing. While most players focused on recovery and refocusing during halftime, Curry often browsed social media mentions and checked Twitter, sometimes even accepting dares from followers.
A notable example involved NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Kerith Burke. After learning Curry checked his phone at halftime, she tweeted a playful dare during a game, asking him to do an airplane celebration after his first three-pointer in the second half if he saw it. Curry saw the tweet, hit a three, and performed the celebration.
Curry stated that he has significantly reduced this halftime social media activity as he's gotten older (now 37). He explained that recovery, hydration, and maintaining his body during the precious few minutes in the locker room have become much bigger priorities. He acknowledged that his past behavior may have set a precedent.
