An 18-year-old woman sustained potentially life-changing head injuries while on a ride at the Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show on Saturday night. Police confirmed the incident occurred at 22:53 BST, and the woman was taken to hospital.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary stated they are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regarding the incident. An unidentified woman, who assisted with first aid, described "shock and panic" at the scene. She reported initially not realizing the severity but learned of it from the injured woman's friend. The witness expressed shock that such an incident could occur on a fairground ride used by young children, stating, "This must never happen again."
The organisers of the Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show have been approached for comment. An HSE spokesperson clarified that the incident is being handled by the local authority and Hampshire police. Despite the incident, a Facebook post from the fair on Sunday announced they were open for the third day of the show.
