Tottenham Hotspur are actively seeking a replacement for Son Heung-Min following the South Korean forward's surprising announcement of his departure during the club's pre-season tour. This decision leaves a significant gap in manager Thomas Frank's attack.
Spurs have identified Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani as their primary target to fill the void. The French international, who previously attracted interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea, was a subject of Spurs' attention last January but ultimately joined Juventus on loan for the latter part of the season.
Kolo Muani's history includes rejecting a potential £88 million move to Liverpool in January 2023, choosing to stay with Eintracht Frankfurt where he scored 26 goals in 50 matches. He subsequently joined PSG for £76.2m in September 2023. Manchester United also seriously considered him in 2023 alongside Rasmus Hojlund, ultimately opting for Hojlund due to youth and cost.
After a decent start at PSG (9 goals in 40 starts), Kolo Muani's playing time decreased last season (2 goals in 10 Ligue 1 games), leading to his loan move to Juventus. He excelled in Serie A, scoring 8 goals and providing 1 assist in 16 appearances.
This strong loan spell has reignited interest, with both Juventus and Tottenham now competing to sign him permanently. Although no formal offers have been submitted yet, Spurs face significant competition. If successful, Kolo Muani would face the challenge of replacing the iconic Son, who scored 173 goals in over 450 appearances for Tottenham, including helping them win the Europa League last season.
Son explained his difficult decision to leave after ten years, stating he felt he had achieved everything possible at Tottenham and desired a new challenge, expressing gratitude for the club's respect for his decision and wishing them well.
