Warriors’ Kuminga Trade Talk With West Rival Overblown

Jonathan Kuminga's future with the Golden State Warriors remains uncertain amidst ongoing sign-and-trade rumors. However, recent reports indicate that the Sacramento Kings' level of interest, previously reported as significant, may have been overstated. A Sacramento radio host clarified that the Kings were never in "advanced talks" for Kuminga, describing the interaction as merely "two teams kicking tires," and suggested the initial narrative might have been inflated by camps involved.

The Warriors are reportedly open to trading Kuminga but only for what they consider the right return, specifically seeking a first-round pick in any sign-and-trade deal for the 22-year-old forward. The Chicago Bulls have also been in discussions, reportedly centered on Ayo Dosunmu, but no deal appears close.

A significant gap exists in contract negotiations. Kuminga is said to be seeking a four-year contract worth approximately $30 million annually, while the Warriors are offering closer to $20 million per year over three seasons. The Warriors view their proposed shorter contract as potentially easier to move later if needed.

Despite earlier expectations that Kuminga would be traded this summer, the market has thinned, and the Warriors haven't found a suitable deal. Kuminga has shown promising flashes, averaging 15.3 points in the 2025 playoffs and stepping up during Stephen Curry's injury, including scoring 30 points in a Western Conference Semifinals game. However, concerns remain about his defense and fit within Steve Kerr's offensive system.

For now, the Kings are reportedly out of the running. Kuminga will remain with the Warriors unless another team meets their asking price.
