Russell Westbrook passes Magic Johnson for 7th in assists
Russell Westbrook achieved two significant career milestones during the Sacramento Kings' 113-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. He recorded his 10,142nd career assist in the first quarter, surpassing Magic Johnson's total of 10,141 to move into seventh place on the NBA's all-time assists list. Westbrook finished the game with 10,149 assists across 1,268 career games.
In the same game, Westbrook also recorded his 2,000th career steal, becoming only the 14th player in NBA history to reach that mark. For the game, he posted 21 points and 9 assists.
Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star and the 2017 MVP, has led the league in assists three times. He is now positioned to potentially climb higher on the all-time assists list this season, with Mark Jackson (10,334 assists) and Steve Nash (10,335 assists) being the next players ahead of him.
Regarding his steals milestone, Westbrook is also within reach of moving up from 14th on the all-time list. He could potentially pass Mookie Blaylock (2,075 steals) and Karl Malone (2,085 steals) this season if he maintains his current pace of 1.5 steals per game.
