Teen winger Culbreath scores on debut as Leverkusen beats Leipzig in Bundesliga
Bayer Leverkusen secured a 3-1 victory over Leipzig on Saturday, with 18-year-old German-American winger Montrell Culbreath scoring on his senior debut. Culbreath, who came off the bench in the 77th minute, sealed the win with a stoppage-time breakaway goal, though it was subject to a VAR check for a potential handball claim by Leipzig earlier in the play.
Leipzig initially took the lead through Xaver Schlager, but Leverkusen equalized via Martin Terrier's header and went ahead before halftime with a goal from Patrik Schick. Despite missing key players due to injury or the Africa Cup of Nations, Leverkusen held on to hand Leipzig their first home loss of the season, climbing to third in the Bundesliga table.
In another match, Wolfsburg fell 4-3 to Freiburg despite a hat-trick from Dzenan Pejcinovic, who scored his first Bundesliga goals. Wolfsburg's defensive errors, including a penalty concession and an own goal, allowed Freiburg to level twice before substitute Derry Scherhart netted a 78th-minute winner, leaving Wolfsburg in 14th place.
Eintracht Frankfurt ended the year with a 1-1 draw against Hamburger SV, placing seventh amid a run of one win in their last six games. In the league standings, Bayern Munich maintains a six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund, with Leverkusen now third and Leipzig dropping to fourth.
