National University (NU) Bulldogs secured a historic five-peat in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament, defeating Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws in a decisive Finals Game 3 (25-16, 28-26, 25-23). Rookie setter Greg Ancheta played a pivotal role, delivering 16 excellent sets in front of a record-breaking crowd of 14,517 at Mall of Asia Arena.
Former NU captain and two-time Best Setter Owa Retamar praised Ancheta’s composure and leadership, highlighting his fearlessness and potential. Retamar, now with Alas Pilipinas, expressed pride in NU’s continued dominance and credited the team for overcoming a resilient FEU squad.
Ancheta revealed he received advice from Retamar, who encouraged him to play confidently and with passion. The second-year setter also acknowledged coach Dante Alinsunurin’s rigorous guidance, which helped him unlock his potential after a mid-season wake-up call during the elimination round.
