The Portland Trail Blazers have decided to end first-round draft pick Yang Hansen's participation in the NBA Summer League early. This decision was not prompted by injury concerns, but rather because the team's front office was satisfied with his performance and deemed further playing time unnecessary.
Hansen's strong showing has positioned him as a potential candidate for the team's regular rotation, particularly following the departure of center Deandre Ayton. If he secures a rotation spot, he would play alongside franchise icon Damian Lillard, who recently rejected offers from other championship-contending teams to re-sign with Portland on a three-year, $42 million contract.
However, Lillard will be unavailable to play until the 2026-2027 season due to a torn Achilles tendon suffered during the NBA playoffs—an injury typically requiring over a year of recovery time.
