Cubs 6-1 Reds (Aug 6, 2025) Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 on Wednesday, preventing a series sweep. Seiya Suzuki hit a sixth-inning solo home run, his 27th of the season, tying him for seventh in the majors. Suzuki went 2-for-2 with two RBI, a walk, and also drove in Nico Hoerner with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.

Cubs starter Cade Horton (6-2) earned the win, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six. Horton extended his scoreless innings streak to 23 1/3 innings. Cubs relievers Drew Pomeranz, Andrew Kittredge, Brad Keller, and Daniel Palencia (16th save) held the Reds to one run over the final 3 1/3 innings.

Dansby Swanson and Ian Happ added solo home runs in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, to pad the Cubs' lead. The Reds scored their only run in the ninth inning. Reds starter Andrew Abbott (8-2) took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.

A key moment was Andrew Kittredge throwing an immaculate inning (nine pitches, all strikes) in the top of the seventh, the Cubs' first since 2022. The Reds had only two baserunners entering the ninth inning and did not record a walk.

The win improves the Cubs' record to 66-48, keeping them in position for a National League Wild Card berth. The Reds (60-55) fell three games behind the New York Mets for the final spot. The Reds next travel to Pittsburgh for a four-game series against the Pirates, while the Cubs face the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
