Thomas Tuchel has excluded Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his latest England squad for the upcoming matches against Wales and Latvia, sparking discussion due to their profiles and recent form.
Bellingham, who returned from shoulder surgery on September 20 and has featured in Real Madrid's last four matches with only one start, was surprisingly omitted. This decision is notable given his key role in the team and Tuchel's previous emphasis on limited preparation time ahead of the World Cup finals next summer.
Similarly, Foden was left out despite playing in Manchester City's last six games and scoring twice against Manchester United and Huddersfield. Tuchel made only three changes to the squad that previously defeated Andorra and Serbia, indicating a cautious approach to team selection.
In terms of recalls and replacements, Bukayo Saka has been reinstated to the squad, while Arsenal teammate Noni Madueke is sidelined due to injury. Jarell Quansah steps in for the injured Tino Livramento, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is included from the start after initially being called up as a replacement last month. Adam Wharton, now available, has been omitted, and other notable absences include Ben White and Jack Grealish, the latter despite a strong start to his loan spell with Everton.
England currently leads their World Cup qualification group by seven points, having won all five matches without conceding a goal. A victory against Latvia, combined with Serbia failing to win both of their games against Albania and Andorra, would secure England's spot in next summer's tournament.
