New York Knicks All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns is demonstrating intense focus ahead of the upcoming season, carrying over his playoff intensity into a summer camp for kids. In a video shared by the Knicks, he blocked every shot attempt by the children, highlighting his high level of engagement regardless of the opponent.
Towns is coming off a highly productive season, averaging 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, and is now entering his prime. There is discussion about a potential short-term contract extension for him, similar to the two-year, $145 million deal Devin Booker recently signed with the Phoenix Suns.
According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, while a lucrative extension is possible, Towns still has three years and approximately $170 million remaining on his current contract, which could complicate trade discussions. Windhorst noted that no extension talks have occurred this summer, but this should not be interpreted negatively.
ESPN's Tim Bontemps suggested that if Towns were to sign an extension, it might follow the structure of Rudy Gobert's deal rather than Booker's. Despite the contract situation, the Knicks, with Towns, are considered title contenders in the Eastern Conference alongside teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Knicks will begin their preseason schedule by hosting the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden on October 2.
