Lindsay Allen joined the Connecticut Sun for the first time in the WNBA season, serving as a reliable guard off the bench. She appeared in 31 games, starting nine of them, and averaged 14.5 minutes, 2.4 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, contributing solidly to the team's rotation.
The Sun had a challenging season, winning only 11 games, marking one of their worst performances since relocating from Orlando. Despite the team's struggles, Allen stepped into a larger role after guard Bria Hartley suffered a season-ending knee injury, which increased her playing time and responsibilities on the court.
Allen achieved significant career milestones during the season, including recording her 600th career assist in the season opener against the Washington Mystics, making her the 91st player in WNBA history to reach that mark. She also celebrated her 200th career game in a matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks, highlighting her longevity and value in the league.
Her WNBA career began as the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 draft, with stints on multiple teams including the New York Liberty, Las Vegas Aces, Indiana Fever, Minnesota Lynx, and Chicago Sky. Additionally, Allen played overseas for the Melbourne Boomers in the Women's National Basketball League, where she helped the team win the league title in 2022, earned Finals MVP honors, and received an all-WNBL second-team selection. Before her professional career, she was a four-year starter at Notre Dame, finishing as the program's all-time assist leader and setting a record for most consecutive starts, with career averages of 8.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game.
Allen's future with the Sun remains uncertain as the WNBA players' union and the league focus on negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement, with the current one expiring on October 31. Compounding this, the Sun faces potential ownership changes, as the Mohegan Tribe has considered offers from various parties, while the state of Connecticut is actively working to keep the team in the state, including possible investment from its pension fund.
