Lynn Amedee, former LSU quarterback in the early 1960s and a football coach across high school, college, and professional levels, passed away on May 20 at the age of 83. A Baton Rouge native, he began his football career at Istrouma High School and later played quarterback for LSU from 1960-62, winning SEC championships in both football and baseball in 1961.
After a brief CFL stint with the Edmonton Eskimos (1963-64), Amedee started coaching at Istrouma High in 1965. He held head coaching roles at multiple high schools, including Baker High (1967-69), Northeast High, New Iberia, and Opelousas. His collegiate and professional coaching career included positions at ULM (1970), Tulane (1971-72), the New Orleans Saints (1973), and LSU (1975-78, 1993-94), where he served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. He also coached at Tennessee Martin (1980-81) and several SEC schools.
Amedee is survived by his daughters Rene Graphia and Lee Hattaway, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two brothers. Visitation will be held on June 3 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.
