The New York Liberty will have two key players, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, returning to the lineup for Monday night's game against the Connecticut Sun.
Breanna Stewart is returning from a right knee bone bruise that kept her out for 13 games. Head coach Sandy Brondello confirmed Stewart will be on a minutes restriction in the "20s" as she eases back into play. Stewart expressed her eagerness to rejoin the team and contribute to their playoff push, noting she took the necessary recovery time with the training staff.
Stewart, who turns 31 this week, has averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 24 games this season. Her absence, which began after an injury on July 26, saw the Liberty go 5-8 and drop to fifth in the standings with a 22-15 record. She emphasized her return will bring energy, defensive presence, and versatility to both ends of the court.
Sabrina Ionescu will also return after missing one game due to a left foot injury sustained during a previous match. Ionescu has averaged 19.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 35 games this season. Her absence marked only the second game she has missed all year.
The Liberty have seven regular-season games remaining as they aim to improve their standings before the postseason. Other player availability includes Isabelle Harrison as a game-time decision, while Natasha Cloud and Nyara Sabally will not play.
