Rodri tells Riyad Mahrez there’s a player in Manchester City’s ranks who’s similar to him

Manchester City midfielder Rodri informed former teammate Riyad Mahrez, during Mahrez's visit to the Etihad Campus, that a current City player resembles him. Mahrez, a key figure in City's recent successes, returned ahead of their Palermo trip.

Rodri specifically pointed to new signing Rayan Cherki while hugging Mahrez and told the Al-Ahli star "he's like you". Cherki joined City from Lyon earlier this summer and has already made an impression. The moment was captured in a club social media video showing Mahrez first embracing Cherki, then Rodri, before Rodri made the comparison as Cherki moved away.

The video also showed Mahrez greeting other players and concluded with manager Pep Guardiola embracing him.

Mahrez enjoyed a highly successful five-year spell at Manchester City, making 236 appearances, scoring 78 goals, and providing 59 assists. His trophy haul included four Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups, and three League Cups.

Mahrez transferred to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in July 2023 for £30 million, signing a four-year contract. Since joining Al-Ahli, he has scored 29 goals in 78 appearances, helped them win the AFC Champions League, and guided the team to third and fifth-place finishes in the league during his two seasons.
