Sources informed ESPN that four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb is anticipated to sign a one-year contract with the Houston Texans on Monday.
The completion of this signing depends on Chubb successfully passing a physical examination.
Should he sign, Chubb would bolster a Texans rushing attack that already includes two-time Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and rookie Woody Marks.
Chubb, drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round in 2018, spent his first seven NFL seasons with them, achieving the third-highest rushing yards (6,843) in Browns franchise history.
His time in Cleveland was significantly impacted by injuries: a severe knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season caused him to miss the first six games of 2024. He returned in Week 7 and scored a touchdown but then suffered a broken foot in Week 15, ending his season prematurely.
During the 2024 season, Chubb played only eight games, accumulating 332 rushing yards while recording career lows in yards per attempt (3.3) and the percentage of carries gaining at least 10 yards (4.9%).
The Texans are hopeful that Chubb can return to his pre-injury performance level and form a potent running back combination with Joe Mixon, who rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024.
NFL Network was the first to report the news of Chubb's expected signing with Houston.
