Juventus and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement for the transfer of USMNT winger Tim Weah. The deal involves a loan move with an obligation for Marseille to buy the 25-year-old player. While the deal is confirmed to be in place, some final details between the clubs need resolution before completion.
The transfer concludes a tumultuous summer window for Weah. He previously declined a move to Nottingham Forest, and his agent, Badou Sambague, publicly criticized Juventus management, accusing one specific individual within the sporting department of mishandling the situation. Sambague claimed this person excluded Weah from the Club World Cup squad, tried to force an unwanted move, and was now demanding an excessive fee while obstructing the Marseille transfer, methods Sambague labelled as "old-fashioned" and disrespectful. Juventus general manager Damien Comolli countered that an adequate offer hadn't arrived and Weah couldn't simply choose his destination.
Despite the conflict, Weah appears to be joining his preferred club, Marseille, ahead of a crucial season culminating in the World Cup next summer. This move to a Champions League club, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, is seen as beneficial for securing consistent playing time. Weah has prior successful experience in Ligue 1 with PSG and Lille, and Marseille finished second in the league last season. The transfer ends Weah's club partnership with US teammate Weston McKennie at Juventus, coinciding with the arrival of his former Lille teammate, Canada's Jonathan David.
