Tottenham Hotspur, under new manager Thomas Frank, took a 2-0 lead against Paris St-Germain in the Super Cup with just over five minutes remaining, seemingly on course for victory. However, PSG staged a stirring comeback and ultimately won the match via a penalty shootout, preventing Spurs from becoming the first Europa League winners to lift the trophy since 2018.
Despite the loss, Frank's influence on Tottenham's performance was evident for the majority of the game. The team displayed promising signs for 85 minutes, demonstrating effectiveness in key areas like set-pieces, pragmatism, and efficiency.
Frank praised his team's performance against a top opponent, stating they played "a very good game against one of the best teams in the world." He highlighted that Spurs had PSG "exactly where they wanted them for 80 or so minutes," describing the first half as "almost perfect" and noting the team's dangerous set-pieces. He believes the team showed they "can play up against any team in the world."
Nevertheless, the late collapse, surrendering the two-goal lead, indicates that there is significant work still to be done by Tottenham.
