While the NBA represents the highest level of basketball globally, some of the most intense and passionate fan environments are found in European countries like Serbia, Turkey, and France, known for their synchronized chanting, flares, and energetic support.
Inspired by his experience playing in such European leagues, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is leading an initiative to create a dedicated group of "superfans" to bring a similar atmosphere to Spurs home games. The team is holding tryouts for this fan section, with registration scheduled for September 14 at the Frost Bank Center.
According to an Associated Press report, the fan club requires a $999 membership fee and commits members to attend at least 75% of home games, participate in chants and rituals, and support the team with "passion and respect." In return, members receive perks such as discounts and opportunities to meet special guests.
Wembanyama believes this initiative will provide a competitive advantage for the Spurs, especially in close games, by boosting team energy during critical moments. The Spurs will play their first home game of the season on October 26 against the Brooklyn Nets.
