Cairo, Egypt, has been chosen to host the 2025 FIBA Youth Camps for boys and girls in Africa, building on the success of previous editions held in various African cities in 2022, 2023, and 2024. This event underscores FIBA's ongoing dedication to fostering young basketball talent through comprehensive training and education.
The camps will be held at the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall, with the girls' session running from October 12 to 15, 2025, and the boys' camp from October 19 to 22, 2025. Each camp will include 40 participants aged 15 to 17, selected from 20 African countries based on their basketball talent, discipline, and potential both on and off the court.
Directed by Cheikh Sarr and coordinated by FIBA instructors Joe Touomou and Naoufal Uariachi, the camps will feature four days of technical and tactical training sessions supervised by experienced professionals. The program extends beyond basketball skills, incorporating FIBA's 360 Performance Programme to develop mindset, mental preparation, physical wellbeing, leadership, community engagement, and personal hygiene, aiming to produce well-rounded athletes.
Participants are encouraged to become ambassadors for basketball and positive influences in their communities. The 2025 edition will include insights from former stars like Isabelle Yacoubou and Hamchétou Maïga-Ba, who will serve as role models and share their experiences to bridge the past and future of African basketball.
The FIBA Youth Camps Africa have demonstrated a tangible impact, with numerous alumni progressing to national youth teams, earning international scholarships, or joining elite academies. Coaches trained in the camps have also enhanced their skills, bringing modern teaching methods and improved athlete management back to their home countries.
