The Los Angeles Clippers have signed guard TyTy Washington Jr. to a training camp contract, according to a report. This follows the signing of Patrick Baldwin Jr. to a similar contract.
Washington played last season for the Phoenix Suns on a two-way contract. He averaged 2.2 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 16 NBA appearances. In the G League, he posted significantly higher averages of 21.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game.
The 23-year-old Washington, a Phoenix native who played high school basketball locally before becoming a five-star recruit at Kentucky, was drafted 29th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2022. He was subsequently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and then the Houston Rockets. After his rookie season with Houston, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks and then moved again to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who waived him before the 2023-24 season. He signed a two-way deal with the Milwaukee Bucks prior to joining the Suns for the 2024-25 season.
Washington becomes the latest former Suns guard to join the Clippers, following Bradley Beal and Chris Paul. Many view the Clippers as a serious contender to emerge from the Western Conference this season.
Meanwhile, the Suns are navigating an offseason marked by the departures of Beal and Kevin Durant, along with changes at head coach and general manager. They signed Isaiah Livers and CJ Huntley to two-way deals this offseason.
