Ex-Texas quarterback may be on the chopping block for the Dolphins

Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers had a disappointing NFL preseason debut for the Miami Dolphins, failing to impress while competing for the backup quarterback spot. Analyst Brian Miller of Phin Phanatic criticized Ewers' performance, noting he couldn't move the ball consistently, looked rushed, finished with a 27.8% completion rate, took two sacks (including a critical one late), and fumbled twice.

Miller stated that Ewers did not make a strong case for a spot on the Dolphins' final 53-man roster and suggested he could be cut if his play doesn't improve quickly. The analyst emphasized Ewers needs a rapid turnaround.

In contrast, fellow Dolphins quarterback Zach Wilson performed significantly better in his debut, throwing for 96 yards and leading two touchdown drives, despite not throwing a touchdown pass himself.

Ewers, whose surprising fall in the recent NFL Draft shocked many including himself despite leading Texas to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances, has an opportunity this week to show improvement if he wants to remain on the Dolphins roster. His first NFL performance potentially indicated why he wasn't drafted higher.
