The Green Bay Packers are entering Jordan Love's third season as starting quarterback, having achieved winning records and playoff berths in both of his first two years. Former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum predicts continued success for Love and the team in 2025.
Tannenbaum addressed concerns about Love's tendency for slow starts, noting the team began 0-2 in 2024 and 2-5 in 2023 before strong finishes. He assured fans Love would start strong this season, crediting the addition of first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden as the missing piece for the offense. Tannenbaum suggested that without a few errant throws leading to 11 interceptions last year, Love could have been an MVP candidate, emphasizing the team is "absolutely loaded."
The Packers selected Golden 23rd overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, ending a 23-year streak of not taking a receiver in the first round. Golden was a standout player for Houston and Texas in college.
Combined with Love's development as a starting quarterback, Tannenbaum sees no reason the Packers can't maintain success under head coach Matt LaFleur. However, achieving this will be challenging as Green Bay faces the NFL's fifth-hardest schedule in 2025, based on opponents' combined 2024 records. Beyond NFC North games, their schedule includes matchups against the Commanders, Bengals, Steelers, Eagles, Broncos, and Ravens.
Despite the difficult schedule, Tannenbaum believes Love has ample opportunity to prove himself as an MVP-caliber player this season, building on his successful first two years as the starter.
