Phoenix Suns rookie Khaman Maluach, aged 18, defined an "unc" (slang for uncle) as someone born "below 2000s," meaning before the year 2000. When asked specifically about 25-year-old NBA player Tyrese Haliburton, Maluach provided a nuanced distinction based on context.
Maluach explained that Haliburton would be considered an "unc" if he were still in college at age 25. However, since Haliburton is in the NBA, Maluach stated he is not an "unc" but rather a "big bro." He clarified the rule: "If you’re 25 or 26 in college, you’re unc. But if you 25 or 26 in the league, you’re big bro."
Other NBA rookies offered different definitions. Number one overall draft pick Cooper Flagg gave a simple cutoff year of 1995 for being an "unc." Utah Jazz rookie Ace Bailey defined an "unc" as anyone aged 26 or older who is "off your people’s insurance."
