Chiefs head coach Andy Reid discussed offensive lineman Josh Simmons ahead of the team's Week 9 matchup. Reid confirmed Simmons will definitely be ready for training camp and able to participate in some activities before then.
The Chiefs conducted thorough evaluations of Simmons, meeting him at the combine, bringing him in for one of their allotted 30 pre-draft visits, and holding multiple Zoom calls, including one as recently as the day before the discussion.
Reid stated that Simmons would have been a top five or ten draft pick, emphasizing that the offensive line, particularly the left tackle position, is an area where the team needs good players. He believes Simmons can help close that gap once healthy and is seen as a true left tackle, though noted his flexibility to play any spot on the line.
Reid highlighted Simmons' skills in both the run and pass game. He specifically valued Simmons' ability to anchor down in pass protection, a crucial trait for a left tackle protecting a right-handed quarterback, especially given the quality of defensive ends the Chiefs face.
