Manchester City signed 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg for £12.5 million in July, making him Norway's most expensive export. The club views him as one of Europe's most exciting young talents.
Despite bolstering their star-studded midfield for the 2025-26 season with signings like Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki (following Kevin De Bruyne's departure), manager Pep Guardiola wants to trim the squad before the transfer window closes on September 1st. Sporting director Hugo Viana is overseeing this squad revamp.
Several loan moves and sales are progressing: Vitor Reis has already joined Girona on loan; Jack Grealish is finalizing a season-long loan to Everton after passing his medical; James McAtee is nearing a permanent sale to Nottingham Forest; and Tottenham are in talks to sign Savinho. Loan moves are also mooted for Claudio Echeverri and Sverre Nypan, with Girona interested in both players to increase their Manchester City contingent. Guardiola has reiterated his desire for further departures before the window closes, with outgoings expected to accelerate after the season opener against Wolves.
In an interview, Arne Nypan, Sverre Nypan's father, discussed his son's immediate future as all parties deliberate on where the young midfielder will spend the next year on loan to best serve his development.
