Roaring into the Big League: London City Lionesses Boost Squad Ahead of Barclays Women’s Super League Debut

London City Lionesses, the only independent club in the Barclays Women’s Super League, have announced six new signings during the current transfer window. These additions strengthen the squad as they prepare for their debut season in the top tier.

Two of the new signings highlighted are Daniëlle van de Donk and Sanni Franssi. Dutch midfielder Daniëlle van de Donk joins from OL Lyonnes on a two-year contract. A UEFA Women’s Euro winner with 171 international caps, she brings elite experience from clubs like Arsenal, where she won the Barclays Women’s Super League, and OL Lyonnes, where she won multiple domestic titles and the Champions League, making over 100 appearances. She represented the Netherlands at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 and returns to England.

Finnish striker Sanni Franssi, a proven finisher with over 30 goals for Real Sociedad, adds firepower to the frontline. She has over 90 caps for Finland and experience at clubs including Juventus, Fortuna Hjørring, and PK-35. She also represented Finland at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
