The UAAP is considering concluding its Season 88 men's basketball tournament ahead of schedule to allow players to participate in Gilas Pilipinas' campaign at the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. Norman Black, the national team coach, aims to include UAAP standouts but has secured only eight players so far.
The scheduling conflict arises because the UAAP tournament, set to begin on September 20, is expected to run until December, overlapping with the SEA Games. UAAP officials, including vice president Mark Molina, are in discussions with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to explore options for an early finish, with a decision anticipated soon.
In the previous SEA Games, Gilas Pilipinas successfully utilized UAAP players to reclaim the gold medal. Under coach Norman Black, the team now aims for a record-extending 20th gold in the upcoming competition.
