The NFL preseason will determine roster spots for many players, with cuts impacting fantasy football by signaling team confidence in certain positions or players.
Joe Flacco's presence with the Browns could provide consistency for pass-catchers like Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku. However, after Shedeur Sanders' strong preseason debut (11/18 passes, 103 yards, 2 TDs), Flacco faces potential release in a crowded QB room including Sanders, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel. While Flacco offers veteran value, his presence might overshadow a new starter. Sanders' continued performance could positively affect fantasy pass-catchers.
Antonio Gibson, entering the second year of a $11.25 million deal with the Patriots ($4.5M 2025 cap hit), faces uncertainty under new coach Mike Vrabel. Despite solid 2024 production (538 rushing yards, 206 receiving yards) and a history as a capable pass-catcher, the drafting of second-round RB TreVeyon Henderson and a deep backfield (including Rhamondre Stevenson) puts Gibson at risk. Cutting Gibson would boost fantasy confidence in Henderson, who is expected to surpass Stevenson.
Devin Singletary, midway through a $16.5 million Giants contract ($6.25M cap hit), is also a potential cut candidate. After a decent 2024 (437 rushing yards, 4 TDs; 119 receiving yards), the Giants drafted Cam Skattebo. New York may shift to a Skattebo (primary rusher) and Tyrone Tracy Jr. (pass-catcher) duo. Releasing Singletary would signal strong confidence in Skattebo, increasing his fantasy appeal.
