Arsenal raid rivals to close in on world-record transfer

Arsenal is set to make history by agreeing a world-record £1 million transfer fee with Liverpool for forward Olivia Smith. This represents the first seven-figure transfer in women's football history, surpassing the previous record of approximately £900,000 paid by Chelsea for Naomi Girma in January.

Signing Smith is seen as a major coup and a statement of intent from Arsenal, following their Women's Champions League victory in May. The club has further strengthened its squad by securing England winger Chloe Kelly on a permanent three-year contract after her loan from Manchester City last season, and by signing defender Taylor Hinds, who was a free agent after her Liverpool contract expired.
