Back From Injury Nightmare, Trinity Rodman Is Poised for Another NWSL Title Push

Trinity Rodman, who became the youngest player drafted into the National Women’s Soccer League at age 18 in 2021, quickly made an impact by winning Rookie of the Year and helping the Washington Spirit secure the NWSL championship that season. Now 23, she has established herself as a household name and is using her platform to grow women's soccer, including through a partnership with EA Sports FC.

Rodman believes that appearing in the video game helps reach a broader audience, including those who may not follow soccer but are passionate about gaming. She finds it exciting to be recognized both for her on-field and in-game performances, often joking that her virtual version might be better than her real-life play. As part of the promotion for EA Sports FC 26, she recently unveiled her in-game rating, which is an 85 overall, placing her among the NWSL's top 26 players.

While generally pleased with her rating, Rodman humorously expressed a desire for a higher defensive score, emphasizing her pride in being a forward who defends actively. Despite her involvement with the game, she admits she is not skilled at playing video games herself but values the cultural impact and visibility it brings to women's soccer.

On the field, Rodman continues to demonstrate her elite status. After recovering from a nearly four-month injury, she made a dramatic return in a match on August 3, entering as a substitute in the 76th minute and scoring a stoppage-time winning goal to secure a 2–1 victory over the Portland Thorns. She described the emotional experience as amazing, highlighting the challenges of her first long-term injury and the joy of returning to play pain-free.

The win and her emotional comeback resonated deeply with fans, who celebrated her return regardless of the match outcome. Rodman expressed that simply being back on the field, enjoying the game she loves, and feeling the support of the fans was immensely fulfilling, making the victory even more meaningful.
