The NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee announced its top 16 ranking during a halftime reveal at the Duke vs. North Carolina game, with the top 16 teams corresponding to seed groupings 1–4 for the 64-team NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship bracket.
Notre Dame leads the rankings as the top team, holding the nation’s best winning percentage (.958), ranking second in points per game (10.50), and third in total goals (43). The top four seeds, crucial for hosting quarterfinal matches, include Notre Dame, Virginia, Tennessee, and Baylor.
The remainder of the top eight consists of TCU, Florida State, Georgetown, and Duke. The rest of the top 16 are West Virginia, Colorado, Michigan State, Iowa, Arkansas, Memphis, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
The ranking is determined by selection criteria such as strength of schedule, Rating Percentage Index, head-to-head results, performance against common and non-conference opponents, late-season form, and conference results.
The 2025 championship field will include 30 automatic qualifiers and 34 at-large selections, to be revealed on November 10. The committee will seed the top 32 teams into four groups of 1–8, with the top 16 assigned seed groupings 1–4.
The tournament begins on November 14 at campus sites through the quarterfinals, leading to the Women’s College Cup at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, with semifinals on December 5 and the championship on December 8, all broadcast on ESPNU. Tickets are available online.
