Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo delivered a dominant performance in his first summer preparation game, leading Greece to a 104-86 victory over Latvia in the Acropolis Tournament in Athens ahead of FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
In just 15 minutes of play, Antetokounmpo scored 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting, grabbed 10 rebounds, made 7-of-9 free throws, and added two steals and two blocks. He sparked a strong start for Greece with seven straight points in the first quarter, helping build a 13-point lead, and had 20 points and 8 rebounds by halftime.
Antetokounmpo's participation in the friendly matches had initially been delayed due to insurance issues, as FIBA’s coverage does not fully protect high-salary NBA players. The Milwaukee Bucks and the Greek federation were reportedly negotiating the terms of his involvement.
EuroBasket 2025 is scheduled from August 27 to September 14, with games hosted in Cyprus, Finland, Latvia, and Poland before the final phase in Riga. Greece is in Group C and will compete against Spain, Italy, Georgia, Bosnia, and Cyprus.
