NBA star Luka Dončić has purchased Maria Sharapova's custom-built Manhattan Beach residence for $25 million in an off-market deal, setting a new record for the priciest home sale in the coastal city's history.
The property, known as the Sanctuary, was designed by KAA Design and blends Japanese, Scandinavian, and California modern influences. Completed in 2015, the 8,600-square-foot home features concrete walls, black metal window frames, and extensive glass walls that blur indoor-outdoor boundaries. It includes five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a two-lane bowling alley, a resort-style pool, multiple balconies, and an outdoor dining pavilion.
Sharapova originally acquired the lot in 2012 for $4.1 million. The sale closed in late August through a trust linked to Dončić's business manager, with the property never officially listed on the open market. The purchase surpasses the previous record of $24.5 million for an oceanfront home on The Strand, highlighting the Hill Section's growing prestige.
For Sharapova, the sale concludes a decade-long connection to the property as she and her fiancé shift focus to Europe. She recently purchased an $11.5 million estate in Montecito and maintains a $9 million ranch in Summerland. Dončić, recently traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, is establishing roots in LA with this acquisition, following a new three-year, $165 million contract extension.
