The Washington Mystics have acquired guard Jacy Sheldon and a potential 2026 draft pick swap from the Connecticut Sun in exchange for forward Aaliyah Edwards.
Mystics General Manager Jamila Wideman expressed excitement about adding Sheldon, highlighting her skill set, energy, team-first approach, competitiveness, work ethic, shooting ability, and court awareness on both ends. She noted Sheldon has built on her solid rookie season.
Sheldon, the No. 5 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, is averaging 7.5 points per game in her second season. She appeared in 28 games for the Sun this season, starting 17. Her opportunity for playing time with the Mystics is increased following the recent trade of Brittney Sykes to the Seattle Storm.
The draft pick swap involves first-round picks based on other teams' 2025 regular season positions. The Mystics currently hold a 2026 first-round pick based on the Minnesota Lynx's position. Through the swap, they gain the opportunity to acquire a 2026 first-round pick the Sun possess, which is based on the New York Liberty's position. Given both the Lynx and Liberty are top teams, Washington might move up slightly in the draft order but likely not significantly.
Edwards, the No. 6 pick in the 2024 draft, averaged 6.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season for the Mystics.
