NBA Summer League: Warriors squad gets first look at Hansen Yang in Las Vegas opener

The Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers' Summer League matchup in Las Vegas will draw significant attention from China due to the debut of Trail Blazers rookie center Hansen Yang. The 7-foot-1 Chinese player, selected 16th overall in the draft, was previously projected as a second-round pick but became a borderline lottery selection. Golden State had evaluated Yang during a pre-draft workout.

Warriors point guard Taran Armstrong emphasized the defensive challenge Yang presents, stating during shootaround that containing him would require team-wide effort. Armstrong noted the team studied film and developed a specific defensive strategy against the center, particularly if he gains position in the low post.

Marques Bolden, the Warriors' 27-year-old center from Duke, is expected to be Yang's primary defender. Bolden recently returned from an Achilles injury sustained in last year's Summer League and recorded 10 rebounds across two California Classic games.

Other Warriors players to watch include former Vanderbilt guard Chris Mañon, who impressed defensively and with athletic finishes in his Summer League debut but had limited impact in subsequent California Classic games. Additional former SEC guards may also feature in the contest.
