The Los Angeles Rams are facing significant concerns with their kicking unit, which has been underperforming for nine weeks and is described as a trend rather than a temporary issue. Coach Sean McVay acknowledged that it has already cost the team points, killed momentum, and is unsustainable for their goals, emphasizing the need for improvement despite the team's ability to respond to setbacks.
Despite the kicking struggles, the Rams have impressed by recovering from two tough losses and are currently regarded as one of the best squads in the league. However, there is uncertainty about whether this positive momentum could be disrupted by a loss in Week 10, especially if the kicking unit continues to hinder their performance.
In a roster move, the Rams signed former long snapper Jake McQuaide to their practice squad and terminated Wyatt Bowles' practice squad contract. McQuaide, who is 37 years old and was previously with the Rams from 2011 to 2020, including during their return to Los Angeles and under Coach McVay, rejoins after a stint with the Dallas Cowboys under former Rams Special Teams Coach John Fassel.
On a positive note, wide receiver Puka Nacua is having an outstanding season, with 61 receptions for 711 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. He played a key role in the Rams' sixth-ranked offense, contributing significantly in their Week 9 victory over the New Orleans Saints with seven receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown.
