Salvai scores twice as Juventus beats Benfica in Women's Champions League opener

Cecilia Salvai marked the 10th anniversary of her Women's Champions League debut by scoring her first two goals in the competition, leading Juventus to a 2-1 comeback victory over Benfica in the opening match of the revamped tournament.

Benfica took an early lead with Lucia Alves scoring in the sixth minute from Nycole Raysla's cross, but Juventus equalized in the 22nd minute when Barbara Bonansea set up Salvai for a headed goal. Salvai then secured the win in the 86th minute by volleying in a corner kick, capping a dominant performance from Juventus after Bonansea had a goal disallowed for offside before halftime.

In other matches, defending champion Arsenal faced record eight-time winner Lyon, runner-up Barcelona hosted Bayern Munich, and Paris FC played OH Leuven. The women's tournament has transitioned to a league-based format similar to the men's competition, featuring an 18-team phase that concludes in December.

Teams finishing first to fourth in the standings advance directly to the quarterfinals, those ranked fifth to twelfth enter a knockout playoff round, and the bottom six teams are eliminated from the competition.
